Choosing a hosting service for your website
Every page and site on the web needs to be hosted somewhere. Typically once your website has been tested and is ready to go it will be 'uploaded' to a web server somewhere in the world. We can offer to host your website on our server - a cost effective and high quality service. However, there are a number of alternative options for hosting your site, and these are briefly outlined below.
The free options
There are many free options to host on the internet including big names such as geocities. Some of these hosts even offer software that will allow you to create pages using templates on line. The downside of free hosting is that someone has to pay for it! This is usually advertisers - so you can expect banners and pop-ups advertising all kinds of goods and services. Even if you are prepared to put up with these intrusions there are further disadvantages - you will be sharing a server with other websites - probably a lot of websites - and you will not be able to expect consistently fast access to your website. Support will also be limited. Free hosting is fine for a site that will be seen by friends and family but it will not be suitable for any organisation hoping to make an impression
Shared hosting
A common website hosting option is shared hosting. A service provider will be able to offer you a space on a web server that is shared with other websites. Once again this may lead to you sharing with websites that will put a big demand on the service and will lead to slow response times or inability to connect. This area is further clouded by the many companies who are 'reselling' services. They are acting as agents for larger sellers but using their own name. In these cases it is difficult to really know what you are getting.
Dedicated hosting
With this option you will pay for a dedicated host. You may even have your own hardware or server. This is an expensive option but gives greater control over your web space.
Hosting with international-school-websites
We rent servers in Europe that give the speed and flexibility of dedicated hosting while allowing us to host your website. Host on our server and you are guaranteed fast connection speeds. We have dedicated hardware and access to reliable high speed services that will ensure that your website users will experience fast access with proven uptime of over 99.9%. As part of a management service we can provide you with statistics that will help you to assess the impact of your website.
For this service you will be paying similar rates to those charged by vendors who are using shared hosting – where the efficiency of your website may be compromised by the other users, over whom you will have no control.
